Auburn hospital launches lifesaving heart care

Heart attack patients in Cayuga County no longer need an urgent ride out of town for treatment, according to The Citizen. Auburn Community Hospital has added cardiac catheterization services to tackle the county’s leading cause of death.

Doctors performed the hospital’s first cardiac catheterization on Jan. 13, followed hours later by its first emergency procedure for a heart attack patient. Both patients are recovering well, hospital officials said. The procedures were led by Jay Varanasi, who chairs the hospital’s Heart & Vascular Institute.

The new 24-hour service allows local diagnosis, angiograms, stents, and emergency care that once required transport to Syracuse or Rochester—saving critical time when every minute counts.
