Two years after Cayuga County dismantled its main development agency, lawmakers are moving to pay a consultant up to $70,000 to chart a new path, according to The Citizen. The Cayuga County Legislature reviewed a plan to fund the work using part of its existing economic development budget.
The consultant would help design a countywide strategy and outline how a new one-stop economic development system could work. Officials say the effort aims to fill the gap left when the Cayuga Economic Development Agency shut down in 2024.
Lawmakers previously shifted responsibility to the Cayuga County Development Corporation, but broader coordination efforts have stalled. The proposal heads next to the Legislature’s Ways and Means Committee.
