A sitting state lawmaker is stepping back from a congressional run in Central New York, according to a statement released Friday. Assemblyman John Lemondes said he is suspending his campaign for New York’s 22nd Congressional District after discussions with his family.
Lemondes launched his bid in August, pitching himself as a veteran, farmer, and small business owner focused on border security, the economy, and restoring trust in government. He has represented the 126th Assembly District since 2021.
The retired Army colonel said he plans to remain in the Assembly and continue serving Onondaga and Cayuga counties, where he has been a frequent critic of Gov. Kathy Hochul.
