New York keeps childhood vaccine rules

New York isn’t backing off childhood vaccinations despite a major federal shift, according to Spectrum News 1.

State health officials said school immunization requirements stay the same after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reduced the number of vaccines it broadly recommends for all children. The CDC now limits some shots to high-risk groups or doctor-patient decision-making.

The New York State Department of Health said no new science justified changing state policy. Officials stressed vaccine access, insurance coverage, and federal assistance programs remain intact, even as flu cases surge statewide.
