Trump, Mamdani loom over 2026 race

Two politicians not on the ballot are shaping New York’s 2026 governor’s race, according to Spectrum News. Democrats and Republicans both plan to center their messaging on President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani as voters head toward November.

Gov. Kathy Hochul continues to hammer Trump’s agenda, while Democrats hope his policies motivate voters statewide. Republicans, meanwhile, tie Hochul to Mamdani, painting her as aligned with democratic socialism.

Expected GOP nominee Bruce Blakeman leans into his Trump endorsement while blaming Hochul for high costs and public safety concerns. Strategists say voters will decide whether those associations matter more than day-to-day issues.
