Driver flees traffic stop, crashes near Farmington Thruway exit

Ontario County deputies charged a driver after a traffic stop turned into a pursuit early March 24 in Farmington. The incident happened around 3 a.m. on State Route 332.

The driver failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed before crashing while exiting onto the New York State Thruway, deputies said.

Michael C. Romell, 30, of Rochester, was identified as the driver. Deputies said he was on parole and his driving privileges in New York had been revoked.

The vehicle failed to navigate a curve and struck a guardrail before becoming disabled.

Romell was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree and aggravated unlicensed operator in the second degree, along with multiple traffic violations.

Deputies transported him to the Ontario County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment.

A passenger, Karina Prusakowski, 30, of Farmington, was released at the scene. No injuries were reported.
