Geneva City Council members will tackle housing questions, parking rules, and public safety issues when they meet Jan. 7 at City Hall.
The regular council meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the second-floor council chambers at 47 Castle St., following a 6 p.m. executive session. The meeting will also stream live on the City of Geneva’s YouTube channel .
Two public hearings headline the agenda. Council will hear public comment on the proposed sale of city-owned property at 32 Middle Street and a potential change in use for Loomis Woods from parkland to housing.
Councilors are also expected to vote on a second reading of an ordinance that would establish clearer parking rules along Lower Washington Street. The proposal would formally designate the area as a city parking lot with time limits and seasonal overnight restrictions.
Several organizational resolutions are also scheduled, including setting regular council meeting nights, designating the city’s official newspaper and financial depositories, and amending council rules to require sponsorship and review periods for resolutions.
Public safety issues will also be part of the discussion. Council members are set to consider a resolution urging state leaders to amend New York’s bail laws to allow judges to consider public safety when making pretrial release decisions.
The agenda also includes a resolution reaffirming the city’s Code of Ethics and establishing professional conduct standards for council members, along with board and commission appointments and a Martin Luther King Day proclamation.
Residents can speak during public hearings and the public comment portion of the meeting.
