Geneva City Council will tackle two items tonight during a special meeting at City Hall.
Council members are set to vote on a new police union contract and formally approve bylaws for the Geneva Business Improvement District when they meet at 5:30 p.m. in the second-floor conference room. The meeting will also stream live on the city’s YouTube channel.
Police contract up for approval
The biggest item on the agenda is a resolution authorizing a new collective bargaining agreement with Geneva Police Officers, Local 3471.
City officials say the tentative agreement would cover Jan. 1, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2028 and applies to 26 officers in the bargaining unit. The deal keeps most existing contract language but includes changes to wages, schedules, benefits, and administrative procedures.
Under the proposed agreement, officers would receive 4% salary increases in each of the three years. Detective pay would also increase to a non-compounding 10% addition to base salary starting in 2026.
City staff said the agreement balances competitive pay with fiscal responsibility and fits within projected budget plans.
Downtown bylaws also on agenda
Council will also consider a resolution to formally affirm the Geneva Business Improvement District’s 2023 bylaws.
The BID said it discovered there was no clear record showing the current bylaws had ever been approved by council. Officials say the vote would confirm the bylaws already guiding day-to-day operations and allow future revisions to move forward.
The BID noted the action carries no financial impact.
The meeting agenda includes only the two resolutions before adjournment.
