Tempers could flare this week as Geneva leaders prepare for back-to-back meetings focused on a proposal to sell city-owned parkland for housing.
The City Council will meet twice — on December 16 and 17 — to finalize plans for a public hearing about the future of Loomis Woods, a green space that could be rezoned and sold for residential development.
Two special meetings, one issue
The Tuesday meeting on December 16 begins at 6 p.m. and includes a closed-door executive session to discuss the employment history of a particular person, in addition to amending the date for the Loomis Woods hearing.
On Wednesday, December 17, the council will meet again at 5:30 p.m. to revisit the same resolution and also take time for a discussion titled “Council Foundation and Orientation”—a likely nod to helping newly elected or returning members get up to speed.
Public hearing now set for January 7
Both meetings are expected to pass a revised resolution that changes the date of the upcoming public hearing. The hearing will now take place January 7 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
Originally set for January 4, the hearing gives residents a chance to weigh in on whether Loomis Woods should be reclassified from a park and recreation area to land for housing development.
