A mother is preparing legal action after learning her child was allegedly confined inside a wooden “timeout” box at an elementary school, according to the Times Union.
The dispute centers on the Salmon River Central School District, where officials confirmed three padded boxes had been placed in classrooms. The parent’s attorney says her autistic, nonverbal son may have been isolated inside one without her knowledge, possibly violating special education laws.
The district placed its superintendent on home duties, put several staff members on leave, and named a new acting superintendent as investigations continue. State education officials ordered the immediate removal of the boxes and banned further student seclusion. Criminal and internal probes remain ongoing.
