Judge frees worker after Cato ICE raid ruling

A factory worker swept up in a Cayuga County immigration raid won release before trial after a judge blasted federal agents for violating her rights, according to The Citizen.

U.S. District Judge Brenda Sannes ordered the release after suppressing key evidence, calling agents’ conduct “grossly negligent” and the detention an unreasonable seizure under the Fourth Amendment. The case stems from a September raid at Nutrition Bar Confectioners that detained 69 workers.

Argentina Juarez-Lopez faces an illegal reentry charge, but the judge threw out fingerprints and records gathered after her arrest. She remains subject to an immigration detainer and could be taken into custody by immigration officials. Her trial is set for February.
