New York tightens rules on kratom

New York just put new limits on kratom sales after Gov. Kathy Hochul signed two bipartisan consumer protection bills, according to WRGB. The laws add statewide oversight to a product long sold without age limits or clear health warnings.

One bill regulates how kratom products are sold and marketed, while the other raises the legal purchase age to 21. Lawmakers said families pushed for action after reporting serious health consequences linked to kratom use.

Supporters say the measures don’t ban the substance but require transparency and protect minors. State officials expect a formal signing ceremony early next week.
