An investigation inside the Steuben County Jail led to new felony charges against two inmates this week.
Deputies arrested two men on December 16 after investigators found suspected drugs inside the jail. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says the case centers on alleged possession of methamphetamine while both men were incarcerated .
Authorities identified the men as Thomas R. Whitehead, 43, of Corning, and Thomas A. Robbins, 33, of Addison. Deputies charged both with first-degree criminal possession of dangerous prison contraband, a class D felony, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance .
Investigators arraigned Whitehead and Robbins in Centralized Arraignment Court and returned them to the Steuben County Jail. The sheriff’s office says the investigation continues into how the contraband entered the facility .
Sheriff Jim Allard commended the Corrections Division for its role in the investigation and arrests .
