Village leaders in Newark will tackle several policy decisions and event approvals when the village board meets Tuesday evening.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the municipal building courtroom and opens with a public hearing scheduled for 6:10 p.m., which will focus on a proposed local law amending Chapter 72 of the village code, which governs cemeteries. Trustees will hear public input before deciding whether to move forward.
Trustees are also expected to consider several community-focused items. The agenda includes approving a 2026 agreement with the Chamber of Commerce and authorizing the use of Central Park for popular summer events, including Music on the Erie and the Wine and Arts Festival.
Police training will be another major topic. Board members will review requests for officers to attend multiple training programs covering use-of-force decision-making, report writing, investigative interviewing, patrol forums, and school resource officer instruction.
Department heads, including the fire chief, code enforcement officer, wastewater treatment plant chief operator, and village clerk-treasurer, will also provide updates or raise concerns.
The board will wrap up with public comment, followed by an executive session related to a legal matter involving the wastewater treatment plant.
