New York eyes statewide Winter Olympics bid

Big air at Yankee Stadium and alpine skiing in Lake Placid? That’s the pitch from two New York lawmakers, who want to bring the Winter Olympics back to the Empire State, according to The Adirondack Explorer.

Assemblymember Robert Carroll and former North Country legislator Billy Jones are pushing a bold plan to split Olympic events between New York City and Lake Placid. They say the state’s existing venues — from Madison Square Garden to Mount Van Hoevenberg — fit the IOC’s push for more sustainable, low-cost Games.

Host cities are locked in through 2034, so any New York Olympics would be at least a decade off. An exploratory committee could launch early next year to assess the idea’s feasibility and public support.
