A 67-year-old man died after a house fire early Sunday at a residence on Silver Street Road in the Town of Fleming, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office. The fire was reported around 6:27 a.m. Dec. 7 at 5520 Silver Street Road.
Authorities said a preliminary investigation determined the fire began in the basement of the home. The homeowner, Robert Glover, was able to escape the residence and call 911. When emergency responders arrived, Glover was found unconscious just outside the front door.
Deputies and emergency medical personnel performed life-saving measures at the scene before Glover was transported by ambulance to Auburn Community Hospital. Officials said he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators said there is no evidence at this time to suggest the fire was suspicious, but the exact origin of the fire remains undetermined and under investigation.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the New York State Police, New York State Fire, Cayuga County 911, and fire departments from Fleming, Owasco, Aurelius, Auburn, Sennett, Throop, Moravia and Skaneateles. The Cayuga County Emergency Management Office, Cayuga County Rehab Team, Cayuga County Coroner’s Office, and the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded.
