Two men were seriously injured Tuesday afternoon after a crash at a busy Walworth intersection left both drivers trapped in their vehicles.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened just after 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Walworth-Penfield and Canandaigua roads.
Deputies said 62-year-old Lawrence Aikins of Canandaigua was heading north on Canandaigua Road and had stopped at the intersection. After proceeding through, his vehicle was struck by a car heading east on Walworth-Penfield Road, driven by 41-year-old Chad Olmstead of Marion.
The impact left both vehicles heavily damaged. Emergency crews had to extricate both drivers before transporting them to Strong Memorial Hospital. A passenger in Aikins’ vehicle was also taken to the hospital but appeared uninjured, officials said.
The Sheriff’s Office said the cause of the crash is still under investigation and is being reviewed by its CRASH Team.
Fire crews from Walworth, West Walworth, and Lincoln responded, along with Wayne County EMS.
