Yates County legislators will meet across several committees next week to tackle critical year-end issues ranging from infrastructure and public safety to health services and the 2026 budget.
The Public Works Committee, which meets at noon on December 1, is set to review road repairs related to the August 2024 storm, including work at Big Gully in Guyanoga and Italy Valley. Legislators will also consider approving the purchase of a John Deere excavator and discuss a new accident damage recovery policy. Other items include planning for 2026 capital paving and naming Yates County as lead agency on the upcoming airport T-hangar project.
Following that meeting, the Human Services Committee will take up more than a dozen resolutions. Public Health, DSS, and the Office for the Aging will present program updates and contracts—ranging from transportation services to fraud prevention and language translation. There are also updates on opioid settlement spending and JUUL lawsuit proceeds. Advisory board appointments and community health planning efforts will also be discussed.
The Finance Committee will handle budget transfers, contract approvals, and review of a 2026 tax anticipation note. It will also weigh in on retirement reporting standards and possible adjustments to the county’s compensation structure.
Meanwhile, the Government Operations Committee is expected to hear updates from departments like the County Clerk, IT, and Elections. Topics will include cybersecurity, digital records, and software support renewals.
At the Public Safety Committee meeting, officials will provide updates on jail staffing, EMS response times, and pending grant applications. The group will also consider a new Deputy Fire Coordinator appointment and receive reports from Emergency Services and the Sheriff’s Office.
Meetings are open to the public and will be available via Zoom for those unable to attend in person.
