New York State Police are investigating a deadly wrong-way crash that killed one driver and injured another on Thanksgiving morning in the city of Rochester.
The collision happened around 8:18 a.m. on Thursday, November 27, on the eastbound side of State Route 104, near the bridge underpass between Lake Avenue and St. Paul Street.
According to troopers, a 35-year-old woman driving a 2025 Nissan Altima was heading west in the eastbound lanes when she crashed into a 2022 Mazda CX-30 driven by 32-year-old Matthew J. Krause of Rochester.
Police say the woman was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries. She was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name has not yet been released.
Krause survived the crash with non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene with help from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and uniform troopers. The section of Route 104 eastbound was temporarily closed but has since reopened.
The investigation is ongoing.
