Historians, genealogists, and curious residents now have unprecedented digital access to Livingston County’s past. The County Historian’s Office has launched a new online catalog that makes nearly 50,000 public records searchable from anywhere, anytime.
The catalog includes a vast array of materials — from 18th-century letters and Civil War-era diaries to historical maps, photographs, and local books. Previously, researchers had to contact the office directly to find out what was available.
“This launch represents months of work to make sure our catalog was ready to be searched, 24/7, right from a patron’s home or library,” said County Historian Holly Watson. “It’s an enormous expansion to our online search offerings, and we couldn’t be happier to provide this service.”
Accessible through the existing Livingston County Record Index, the upgraded platform allows users to search by keyword and apply filters such as year, subject, and record type. While search results are currently text-only, the Historian’s Office is working on linking digital images to entries in the future.
The catalog will be updated daily, and users are encouraged to return frequently and share feedback as the platform continues to grow.
