The law blocks federal immigration officers from arresting undocumented people going to or leaving court unless they have a judge-signed warrant. The Trump-era Department of Justice sued to overturn it, arguing it hindered enforcement.
New York Attorney General Letitia James celebrated the ruling, saying it protects people’s right to seek justice without fear. The DOJ claimed courthouse arrests were safer for agents and the public — but now, that strategy’s off the table in New York.
