Ontario County officials are reminding residents that a boil water advisory remains in effect for parts of the Canandaigua area—and that signing up for emergency alerts is the best way to stay informed.
The Sheriff’s Office says several residents have reported not receiving the original boil water notice. The issue? Many cell phone users aren’t registered with the county’s Reverse 911 Hyper-Reach system, which is used to send time-sensitive alerts.
“Landlines are automatically included, but mobile phones must be registered,” the department said in a public notice. “We completely understand the concern. That’s why signing up is so important.”
Residents can register their phones by visiting this link or through the OntarioSheriffNY App by tapping Resources → Hyper-Reach.
The current boil water advisory remains active, and affected residents should continue boiling tap water before drinking, cooking, or brushing their teeth until further notice.
