Livingston County releases tentative $215M budget for 2026

Livingston County has filed its tentative budget for 2026, outlining a $215 million financial plan that county leaders say is balanced, stable, and focused on essential services.

The proposal includes a recommended tax rate of $7.18 per $1,000 of assessed value. For a home assessed at $202,000, that would translate to roughly $1,452 in County property taxes.

Board Chair David LeFeber said the budget reflects both economic realities and the county’s strong financial footing. “We remain committed to maintaining quality services, supporting our workforce, and planning for the future while managing the burden placed on our taxpayers,” he said.

Acting County Administrator Shannon Hillier called the plan responsible and forward-looking, noting ongoing investments in core services and infrastructure. While total spending is down from 2025 due to one-time broadband grant funds not returning in 2026, both the tax rate and levy are expected to see modest increases.

The budget also includes continued funding for local nonprofits, including the OWWL Library System, Genesee Valley Council on the Arts, Chances and Changes, and Cornell Cooperative Extension.

A public hearing on the tentative budget will be held on November 19 as part of the Board of Supervisors’ regular meeting.
