Downtown Newark was full of laughter, creativity, and autumn flair thanks to the village’s first-ever scarecrow contest—and now the winners are in.
Local businesses, families, and community groups joined the fun, decorating sidewalks with scarecrows that brought out smiles, double takes, and even a few shivers.
Westfall Cardiology won Best Business Display for a heart-themed scarecrow that came complete with a stethoscope and a grin that could “make anyone’s pulse race.”
The Fose Family took home Most Creative with their “Soup Season” scarecrow, which featured a bubbling pot, a printed recipe, and realistic ingredients.
The Funniest entry went to Ruffalo Appliance Sales & Service and Lagana Plumbing & Heating for their cheerful “man on the job” scarecrow, complete with a raised plunger.
Honorable mentions included Girl Scout Troop 41053 for Scariest Scarecrow and The Space Martial Arts School for a lifelike figure that startled drivers at a Central Park crosswalk—earning them the “Crosswalk Confusion & Double Take” award.
Organizers say the event brought joy and fall spirit to the village and they’re already looking forward to next year.
