Senator Helming honors 44 local veterans at annual ceremony

Dozens of local veterans were recognized this week for their service and community contributions during Senator Pam Helming’s 9th Annual Veterans Recognition Ceremony.

Held October 30 at the Fort Hill Performing Arts Center, the event honored 44 veterans from across the 54th Senate District — including Ontario, Wayne, and Livingston counties, as well as several towns in Monroe County. Families, friends, and community members packed the venue for one of Helming’s largest events of the year.

“Hosting this ceremony is one of my greatest honors as a State Senator,” Helming said. “It’s my opportunity to personally thank the men and women who served our nation with courage, strength, and selflessness.”

This year’s honorees served across generations and conflicts — from World War II to the Vietnam War and the Global War on Terror. Some were honored posthumously, with stories and memories shared by loved ones.

Veterans were nominated by community members and featured in commemorative books and biography boards created by Helming’s office, capturing personal stories of service and sacrifice.

“When their military service ended, their service to others continued,” Helming said. “To our honorees and all the veterans who inspire us every day, I thank you.”
