No vehicles passed stopped school buses during Operation Safe Stop

Sheriff’s deputies say school bus safety is improving in Ontario County — and they have the results to back it up.

As part of Operation Safe Stop, held on October 20 and 22, deputies followed school buses throughout the county to catch drivers ignoring the law. The good news? Not a single driver passed a stopped school bus during the patrols.

“We are happy to report that there were no instances of vehicles passing stopped school buses during our patrols,” said Sheriff David Cirencione. “This shows that the educational and enforcement efforts of this Office have paid off.”

Deputies did issue three speeding tickets during the two-day operation, which focused on bus routes and school zones across local districts.

Operation Safe Stop is a statewide campaign that highlights the importance of school bus and school zone safety. The Sheriff’s Office says it will continue taking proactive steps to protect children and hold drivers accountable.

“Safety around school buses is everyone’s responsibility,” the department noted. “We’ll keep working to maintain the high standards our community expects.”
