Two people are facing dozens of animal cruelty charges after authorities rescued 33 dogs from horrific conditions inside a Seneca home.
The Ontario County Humane Society said it found dogs living without power, food, or clean water in a house on Routes 5 & 20 near Flint Road. The floors were covered in feces and urine, and the smell of ammonia was so strong that rescuers had to wear respirators and protective suits.
Some dogs roamed the house freely, while others were locked in rooms with no bedding. Humane officers said there was “very little” food or water available for the animals.
Lynette Kornbau, 39, and Ralph Priest, 42, were each charged with 33 counts of animal cruelty and failure to provide food and water. They were issued appearance tickets.
Dogs recovering at shelter
Officials confirmed that none of the dogs had life-threatening injuries, though many needed urgent care. They were taken to Happy Tails Animal Shelter for cleaning, vaccinations, and eventual adoption.
Investigators executed the search warrant Tuesday morning after receiving reports of the conditions inside the home, which did not have electricity at the time.
The shelter is now preparing the dogs for new homes, and the Humane Society says the animals are safe and recovering well.
