Customers struggling to pay their utility bills due to the federal government shutdown are being urged to reach out for help.
NYSEG and RG&E say they have support programs in place for anyone facing financial hardship, not just those impacted by the shutdown. That includes payment plans, energy-saving tools, and monthly budget billing to spread out seasonal spikes.
“There are all sorts of reasons a customer may be worried about falling behind on their energy bills,” said Christine Alexander, vice president of Customer Service. “We have assistance and payment plans available for those who are having trouble.”
The federally funded Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) opens November 17. Customers approved for HEAP are automatically enrolled in the Energy Affordability Program, which lowers monthly bills through automatic credits
