South Aurora Street in Ithaca closed through December 1

A major water main break on South Aurora Street in Ithaca will keep the road closed between Prospect Street and the Commons through early December.

Crews from the city’s Water & Sewer Division responded quickly to the break on October 18 and kept water service running. Repairs began Monday, with final water work expected to wrap up by October 21. But due to significant roadway damage, full pavement replacement will take up to six weeks.

Drivers heading south from downtown are being rerouted via Seneca, South Cayuga, Clinton, and Danby Road. Northbound drivers should detour using Prospect, Clinton, South Cayuga, Green, and East Seneca streets. Hudson Street remains open to local traffic only.

City officials urge drivers to follow posted signs and plan for delays.
