Yates County lawmakers will hold a public hearing next month on a proposed law that would exempt the county from New York’s new short-term rental registration requirement.
The hearing is set for November 10 at 1 p.m. in the Legislative Chambers at 417 Liberty Street in Penn Yan.
The new state law—Section 447-c of the Real Property Law—requires counties to create registration systems for short-term rental properties, unless they formally opt out. Yates County plans to do just that.
Under Local Law 5 of 2025, Yates County would choose not to establish a registration system. If passed, the law would take effect as soon as it’s filed with the Secretary of State.
Residents can attend the hearing in person or join remotely via Zoom. Login info is posted at www.yatescountyny.gov.
This public hearing will be part of the county’s regular November legislative meeting. A full copy of the proposed law is available on the county website.
