Watkins Glen, Bradford explore school merger

School boards from Watkins Glen and Bradford met Tuesday to discuss the possibility of merging their districts, according to The Odessa File.

Superintendents Kai D’Alleva and John Marshall said consolidation could protect student programs as state budget deficits threaten education funding. Both districts have shrinking enrollments, and state incentives could provide up to $57 million over 14 years for a combined district.

Officials stressed the talks are preliminary and would take years, requiring studies, public votes, and state approval. Both boards agreed any merger must preserve each district’s identity and prioritize opportunities for students.
