A grassroots coalition is planning a peaceful demonstration in Newark later this month, joining a nationwide push for people-powered change.
No Kings Wayne County will host a family-friendly event on Saturday, October 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the intersection of Route 88 and Route 31. Local speakers will address the crowd from the southeast corner of the intersection.
Organizers say the event is part of a larger national campaign coordinated by NoKings.org. It aims to show collective support for democracy and community power across the country.
“On October 18, millions of us are rising again to show the world: America has no kings, and the power belongs to the people,” the group said.
A commitment to nonviolence is central to all No Kings events. Organizers are asking attendees to de-escalate any confrontations and leave weapons—legal or otherwise—at home.
The Wayne County action is being led by a coalition of local advocacy, faith, and civic groups. The event is open to everyone.
