Shooter in Rochester park mass shooting gets 8 years

A man accused of firing during a deadly mass shooting at Rochester’s Maplewood Park has been sentenced to eight years in prison, according to Spectrum News 1. Niger Johnson was one of nine people who allegedly shot into a crowd at a July 2024 barbecue.

Two people died and five were injured, though prosecutors say Johnson’s bullets didn’t hit anyone. He wasn’t charged in the homicides but was convicted of reckless endangerment and weapons possession.

His attorney says Johnson plans to appeal.
