IDA rejects Auburn’s free office offer

Cayuga County’s IDA turned down a rent-free office from the city of Auburn — and will instead pay nearly $20,000 a year, according to The Citizen.

IDA board member Herb Marshall said the deal fell apart over utility costs and the city’s refusal to include the county’s Public Utility Service Agency in the shared space. Mayor Jimmy Giannettino argued that even with minimal charges, the deal was cheaper than leasing elsewhere.

The IDA voted to move into the Carr Building instead. It was a split decision, with some members pushing to include the utility agency, which plays a role in local power-related projects.
