Man charged after domestic assault in Auburn

A man was arrested in Auburn after police say he violated an order of protection and assaulted a woman during a domestic dispute on Cayuga Street.

Officers responded around 8:50 a.m. on September 24 and found the woman with an injury to her hand and damage to her vehicle. Her young child was also present at the time.

Police say the suspect, identified as Michael F. Abdelhandy, had shown up to retrieve belongings when he attacked the woman, struck her vehicle, and caused dents. The incident occurred despite a full stay-away order of protection already in place.

Abdelhandy fled before police arrived but was arrested later. He now faces multiple charges including aggravated family offense, criminal contempt, criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child, and harassment. He was also processed on an unrelated bench warrant.

He was arraigned in Auburn City Court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail.
