A Cayuga County lawmaker wants to block local deputies from helping with federal immigration raids, according to The Citizen.
Legislator Brian Muldrow proposed a “non-cooperation policy” after public outrage over a Sept. 4 ICE raid in Ira, where 69 workers were detained and 52 deported. Deputies didn’t enter the factory but secured the perimeter, which still drew criticism from residents who packed Tuesday’s meeting.
Six Democratic-aligned legislators condemned the raid, calling the workers “hardworking people.” But others, including a former legislator, defended the sheriff’s office and urged lawmakers not to abandon law enforcement.
