The Auburn Police Department responded to 2,737 calls for service in August, continuing a high call volume that has topped 21,000 for the year, according to the department’s newly released monthly activity report.
Among the department’s August stats were 73 adult arrests, 63 juvenile complaints, and 20 warrants executed. Officers also responded to 78 reports of disorderly conduct or fights and 188 suspicious activity calls.
Crimes against people and property
Officers handled:
- 59 domestic violence cases
- 18 drug investigations
- 37 harassment complaints
- 26 mental health-related calls
- 37 larceny investigations
- 18 criminal mischief reports
The department also investigated 7 overdose cases and 11 suicide attempts.
The Detective Bureau opened 19 new cases and closed 15. Seven arrests were made, including for seven felonies and one misdemeanor. One juvenile was referred to family court. At the end of August, the bureau had 229 active cases.
Forensics and training efforts
The Identification Bureau took on 47 new cases and processed 128 items of evidence and 44 photo memory cards. They also handled the state-mandated sex offender reporting for 146 offenders residing in Auburn, with 53 personal contacts made.
Meanwhile, the Training and Planning Division coordinated 1,611 hours of training for officers, including advanced response techniques, drone and firearms training, and annual sexual harassment prevention.
Community outreach and promotions
August also saw the return of the department’s National Night Out at Hoopes Park. Residents got a hands-on look at equipment from the Emergency Response Team, Evidence Technician Van, and Drone Unit.
“Community members gathered around the ERT Van to take a look inside during our National Night Out event,” the report noted.
The month also included pinning ceremonies for officers John Danczak and Nicholas Schattinger, and a promotion celebration for Michael Chadwick, who was named captain.
