Tompkins County leaders are pushing back against a state directive they say could force massive upgrades to the Ithaca wastewater plant—and double sewer bills, according to The Ithaca Voice.
Local officials signed a joint letter to the DEC opposing new nutrient limits based on theoretical models, which would require a near-total rebuild of the plant and cost over $100 million. They’re asking to do real-time lake monitoring instead.
The letter argues the state skipped proper testing and would saddle ratepayers with unjustified long-term costs.
