A late-night fire tore through a home on State Route 21 in Canandaigua Tuesday, drawing help from over a dozen emergency agencies across Ontario County.
Fire crews arrived at 5337 State Route 21 around 11:11 p.m. to find flames shooting from the rear of the building, according to Cheshire Fire Chief Chris Brown.
Water supply posed major challenge

Cheshire firefighters were already handling another call when the report came in. They quickly rerouted, joined by Bristol Fire through automatic mutual aid.
Once on scene, responders discovered a major obstacle — the nearest water source was five miles away. With no fire hydrants nearby, tankers from multiple departments were called in to shuttle water to the fire.
Despite the conditions, crews managed to contain the blaze. No injuries were reported.
One dog escapes, another perishes
Two dogs were inside the home at the time of the fire. One made it out safely. The other did not survive.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Ontario County Emergency Management Office.
Multiple agencies respond
In addition to Cheshire and Bristol, the following departments and organizations assisted at the scene:
VA Fire, Naples Fire, East Bloomfield Fire, Hopewell Fire, West Bloomfield Fire, Ionia Fire, Shortsville Fire, Manchester Fire, Seneca Castle Fire, Honeoye Fire, Canandaigua Emergency Squad, Town of Canandaigua Code Enforcement, Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, and Ontario County Emergency Management.
