Hopewell man accused of assaulting deputy during arrest

Deputies arrested a man Saturday night after two disturbances at motels in Hopewell, including one that left a deputy injured.

Justin A. Rodgers, 27, is facing multiple charges, including two counts of second-degree assault, resisting arrest, and obstruction of governmental administration, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began around 6:34 p.m. on September 13, when deputies responded to a reported assault at the D&D Motel. A male victim was found with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Rodgers had fled the scene before deputies arrived, but they were called back at 7:52 p.m. for another disturbance — this time at the neighboring Woodridge Motel on County Road 50.

When deputies tried to arrest Rodgers, he resisted and injured one of the deputies during the struggle. He was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Ontario County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment.
