Cornell’s NanoScale Science and Technology Facility (CNF) is in funding limbo after a key $7.5M federal grant expired, with no word yet on renewal, according to the Cornell Chronicle.
The NSF-backed facility has supported cutting-edge research, launched startups, and trained thousands since 1977. Without new funding, CNF may raise user fees or cut services—jeopardizing quantum research, semiconductor innovation, and regional economic growth.
Researchers warn that losing CNF’s shared infrastructure would shrink access and stall progress across industries and academia alike.
