Mets drop fourth straight in another loss to Phillies (highlights)

The New York Mets’ slide hit four games on Tuesday night as they fell 9-3 to the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, undone by Sean Manaea’s early struggles and another quiet night at the plate.

Philadelphia’s Ranger Suárez was dominant, keeping New York hitless until the fifth and striking out a career-best 12 over six shutout frames. The Mets didn’t scratch the scoreboard until the seventh, when Mark Vientos opened with a solo blast off David Robertson. But a Vientos error in the bottom half led to another Phillies run, and Kyle Schwarber sealed it with a towering three-run homer, his 50th of the year, joining rare company in franchise history.

Manaear retired the first two batters he faced, but the first inning unraveled when Nick Castellanos ripped a two-run double. In the second, Otto Kemp and Harrison Bader launched back-to-back homers to widen the gap. The left-hander steadied briefly, retiring seven straight, but finished with four runs allowed on five hits and a walk across five innings.

Jose Siri, returning from a five-month absence, doubled and scored on Juan Soto’s run-scoring single in the eighth. Soto’s steal of third gave him the club’s fifth-ever 30/30 season.
