New rule could block voter help at ceremonies

New U.S. citizens like Mathieu Tozer celebrated their naturalization in Ulster County Friday—but registering to vote may soon get harder, according to Spectrum News.

A Trump-era USCIS policy now blocks nonprofits like the League of Women Voters from helping register new voters at ceremonies held in federal facilities, limiting that role to state and local election officials.

Ulster County held its event in a state building, so the League still helped—registering 35% of new citizens. Local election leaders from both parties say the League saves their small staff time and money.
