Ex-union chief could face criminal charges

A yearslong probe into the New York State Troopers union is closing in on former president Thomas Mungeer, who may soon face charges over alleged financial misconduct, according to the Times Union.

Investigators seized hard drives and records from the PBA’s Albany office in 2023 and shifted focus to Mungeer’s spending, compensation, and ties to insurance deals involving allies. The case, once backed by federal prosecutors, is now with Albany County DA’s office.

Mungeer denies wrongdoing and remains on duty, earning overtime that could boost his pension. New union leaders say they’ve overhauled policies to restore transparency.
