A samurai-style umbrella sparked panic and a lockdown at Destiny USA mall Thursday after it was mistaken for a rifle, according to CNY Central.
Syracuse police responded to multiple 911 calls about a man allegedly carrying an AR-15. Officers used drones and cameras to search the area, briefly detaining the man—only to discover the “weapon” was a strappy umbrella with a decorative handle.
The mall was cleared and declared safe. No charges were filed.
