The Yankees closed out their three-game set against the Nationals in blowout fashion on Wednesday afternoon, blasting six home runs in an 11-2 victory at Yankee Stadium. The win sealed a sweep and extended New York’s winning streak to four.
Trent Grisham wasted no time setting the tone, belting a leadoff homer. The real damage came in a marathon third inning, where the Yankees piled on nine runs. Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger launched back-to-back shots, Jasson Domínguez drove in two with a double and single, Ryan McMahon broke out with a three-run blast, and Ben Rice added a solo homer.
Austin Wells joined the home run parade in the fourth, giving the Yankees their sixth of the afternoon. Judge, Grisham, and Bellinger now stand as just the second outfield trio in franchise history with at least 25 long balls each in a season.
On the mound, Max Fried was sharp, setting down the first 11 batters he faced. The Nationals finally broke through in the sixth with three singles that plated a run, but Fried limited the damage and wrapped up seven innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts. Paul Blackburn closed it out with two solid innings.
The only sour note came from Anthony Volpe, who went 0-for-4 and left seven on base. He is 1 for his last 37 and 4 for his last 54 at the plate.
