Tompkins Co. gets $422K to fight gun violence

Three Tompkins County law enforcement agencies are getting a combined $422,000 in state funds to curb gun-related crime, according to The Ithaca Voice.

The money comes through New York’s GIVE grant program. Ithaca Police will use it for training, staffing, and a planned alternative responder program. The Sheriff’s Office will buy equipment and cover overtime.

Local property crime has dropped 35% since the grant began in 2023, and violent crime has remained low.
