Luca Spagnolo swam nearly 16 miles across Canandaigua Lake to support two local cancer patients — and crushed his $15,000 fundraising goal, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
The 23-year-old finished the swim in under 10 hours on Aug. 18, raising over $23,000 for 14-year-old Charlotte Ferraraccio and Derek VanSkiver, both battling cancer.
Spagnolo swam in memory of his cousin, who died from the same illness VanSkiver now faces. He called the challenge a tribute to courage and community.
