Rookie right-hander Cam Schlittler continued to impress in his eighth career start, delivering six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts while allowing just four hits. The 24-year-oldĀ has a 2.76 over his first eight outings.
The Yankees’ bats backed him up in a big way, belting three home runs to give them a league-leading 219 on the season. Ben Rice opened the barrage with his 21st homer in the second inning, while Jazz Chisholm Jr. added his 25th, a new career high, in the fifth.Ā Jasson DomĆnguez capped the power display with a seventh-inning blast, his first since July 23 and 10th of the season.
Cody Bellinger drove in three runs with a sacrifice fly and a two-run single, while Aaron Judge added a run-scoring ground-rule double. Every player in the starting lineup recorded at least a hit as the team finished with 12 total hits.
Though Washington plated five runs in the ninth to avoid a shutout, the Yankees had already built a 10-run cushion.Ā
