Steuben County joins ICE enforcement program

Steuben County has signed two new agreements with ICE, allowing jail staff to serve warrants and arrest suspected undocumented immigrants, according to the USA TODAY Network.

Sheriff Jim Allard says the deals will strengthen public safety through closer federal cooperation, though policies are still being developed. Steuben is now one of six New York counties partnering with ICE, a move that’s drawing legal challenges and criticism from civil rights groups.

The agreements mark a rare shift in a state where such deals are uncommon.
